Well, this is a really ‘old’ design which would still fit very well into any contemporary interior setting. The ‘Akari’ lamp series is among the electric versions of the traditional Japanese lantern which were designed by sculptor Isamu Noguchi to revive Japan’s paper lantern industry in the 1950’s. The delicate table lamps are made from handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame. I liked them because they remind me of aliens with thier stick-thin legs or spaceships maybe….specially when they are lit, giving a ‘floating in the air’ feeling. You can order one at the Noguchi Museum Store which offers so many designs or the MoMa Store.
